What is ZigBee?
ZigBee is based on the IEEE’s 802.15.4 personal-area network standard. It is a specification that’s been around for more than a decade, and it’s widely considered an alternative to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for some applications including low-powered devices that don’t require a lot of bandwidth – like your smart home sensors.
ZigBee is the only global, standard-based wireless solution that can conveniently and affordably control the widest range of devices to improve comfort, security, and convenience for consumers.
A typical example is when you own a smart light bulb (that is ZigBee-enabled) and a smart light switch (that is also ZigBee-enabled), and you want the light switch to communicate with and control the light bulb. With ZigBee, the two devices – even if they’re from different manufacturers – speak a common language.
It harnesses the power of the mesh to connect every product to every other product.
It is easy-to-use and extends your control. Control your home from the comfort of your couch or from the other side of the world.
It watches your home when you can’t, alerting you to intruders, smoke, carbon monoxide, even water leaks. Protecting the things and people your care about.
It works for you – testing the temperature, controlling your lights, even opening your curtain; keeping your home they way you like it.
It allows devices to last for years on a single battery.
It enables product with the ZigBee logo to work together seamlessly, even if they’re from different companies
